WHAT IS ROTARY?
We are an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
Rotary is the world’s first service club. The first Rotary Club was founded in Chicago on Feb 23, 1905. The Chittenango Rotary Club was founded in 1953.
We meet weekly for fellowship and interesting and informational topics of local and global importance. Our membership reflects a wide cross section of the community.
The Rotary Foundation provides over $100 million each year for international scholarships, cultural exchanges, and humanitarian projects large and small that improve the quality of life for millions of people. Rotary is widely regarded as the world’s largest private provider of international educational scholarships.
Rotary International is largely responsible for the eradication of polio throughout the world.
WHAT DOES CHITTENANGO ROTARY DO?
We pitch in and support local programs.
Maybe you’ve seen our Chuckwagon team serving food favorites at Oz-Stravaganza and other events, or met our tool-bearing crews at work on a volunteer project, or attended a Rotary fundraiser such as Lobsterfest. We’re out there, and we take intentional action.
We support: Chittenango High School scholarships * Bear Country Little League * Dollars for Scholars * Summer concerts * Sullivan Park pavilions * Adopt-a-Highway Program * Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum * CNY Lyme Support * Toys for Tots * Boy Scouts * Chittenango Oz-Stravaganza and Oz Museum * Chittenango & Bridgeport Food Cupboards * Du’Nango Duathalon for the CNY Susan G. Komen Foundation * Great Swamp Conservancy * Madison County Children’s Camp * Hospice of CNY * Clear Path for Veterans * Sullivan Free Library * and many more.
We gifted the clock in front of the Chittenango Village Hall, relocated the pavilion to Stickles Park, and constructed a Dog Park at Chapman Park.
We have a big heart for our youth.
We assist in leadership training of local youths through Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. We sponsor youths for foreign student exchange. We support the American Legion in funding scholarships for Boy’s State. We sponsored and raised the funds for Rachael’s Challenge character development program across the school district.
We respond to worldwide concerns.
We have provided funds for many international projects: CNY Books for the World * Shelter Box (for Haiti earthquake survivors) * Pennies for Polio (to eradicate polio worldwide) * Operation Walk * Nicaragua project in El Sauce * Medical Ministry International in Ecuador * Water wells in Ghana * and many more.
